Air Traffic From Helsinki to Lapland to Increase Due to the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup

With the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup being held at the weekend, the flights to Lapland will be increasing as people start to make their trip to the region. This starts the official Santa Flights season, with many more flights starting in the month of December.

Flights from Helsinki Airport to Lapland only take about an hour and this means that people find it a great way to spend a day. With the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup starting tomorrow passengers have flocked to the airport to try and get to the games.

This is what Finavia had to say about the World Cup:

“That leaves you with a lot more time for downhill and cross-country skiing when you arrive. Passengers should now take advantage of the low fares,” says Finavia Sales Manager Thomas Kingelin.

The popularity and accessibility of the Far North is evident in Helsinki Airport’s flight offerings.

Passengers will have more choices when Blue1 begins its winter service in November-December. Flights to Kittilä will begin on 6 November. Blue1 will begin service to Kuusamo on 29 November, to Rovaniemi on 4 December and Ivalo on 6 December. It will fly to all four Lapland destinations until April 2010.

In addition to Blue1, Finnair offers flights from Helsinki Airport to Kittilä, Kuusamo, Rovaniemi and Ivalo throughout the year. Finncomm Airlines flies to Enontekiö from February to May.
